01

Begin with the idea people should remember

Clarify the audience, promise and character before choosing visual ingredients. What should a suitable customer understand about the business after one interaction? What should feel meaningfully different from the alternatives?

Keep positioning specific enough to guide choices. Words such as professional, modern and friendly describe almost every small business. Pair them with a tension: precise but never cold, established without feeling rigid, energetic without adding noise.

02

Build a compact visual system

A practical foundation usually includes a primary logo, simple alternate marks, a colour system, type hierarchy, image direction and layout principles. Each part should work together across a website, proposal, social post and everyday document.

Design for the smallest and least glamorous uses as well as the hero moments. A mark that only works on a presentation cover is not a resilient identity.

  • Primary and compact logo formats
  • Core and supporting colours
  • Headline and body typography
  • Photography or illustration direction
  • Simple layout and spacing rules
03

Give language the same attention

Brand recognition also comes from what you say and how you say it. Define a short message foundation, preferred terms, voice principles and a handful of examples for common situations.

A useful voice guide covers contrast. Explain how the business sounds when teaching, welcoming, correcting a problem or asking for action. This gives a team more help than a list of adjectives alone.

04

Make consistency achievable

Create templates for repeated tasks and keep assets in one obvious place. Name files clearly, record colour values and type licences, and show incorrect uses only when the mistake is genuinely likely.

Consistency does not mean every item looks identical. It means the choices feel related and the business remains recognisable while the format and message change.
