The digital marketspace is huge. How does your audience find you amidst this endless sea of businesses?
One great way is to start a blog.
A blog can help you get noticed. It’s a great medium to share resources and information, introduce your offering and most importantly yourself. If you blog regularly, post interesting stuff and tell people about it, your audience will eventually find you.
Finding the time and discipline to blog regularly may be a challenge, but once you’ve set your mind to it, you just gotta! And really, committing yourself to write on regular basis may be simpler than you think.
Turn it into a habit. Why do you want coffee every morning? Because your brain is wired to want coffee every morning. If coffee can do that for you, so should blogs. It isn’t hard when you write what you enjoy. Find your passion. Relate it to your business, and just… write.
Five tips to help you establish a more organized and effective way of blogging:
1. Invest a few hours one weekend to setup a blog schedule. Think about the topics that excite you. It could be something you have learned that you want to share with the world, or what about questions you get asked over and over again. Use seasonal opportunities when you can, for example a special offer during Christmas? Why don’t you schedule a blog about it!
2. Set aside a specific time to blog. Mine is Friday morning every week. Get in the zone. It may mean turning your favourite music on and letting it blast away in the background while you type, or maybe a glass of wine nearby – whatever works for you. Then write write write.
3. Talk about what you know. You’re the expert in the industry – things that are obvious to you may not necessarily be obvious to us. Sharing your expertise doesn’t mean giving away your knowledge. It’ll in fact show people that you know what you’re talking about and this is why they should trust you.
4. Terrible at writing? Don’t despair. Consider varied content types. If you’re more comfortable talking to a camera, start a Vlog channel on youtube. If you like talking to a recorder, share your podcasts. If you like scribbling your thoughts, put an infographic together or even a little cartoon to express your opinion and share your knowledge. Be bold. Be interesting. Be creative.
5. Spread the word by sharing your blogs to social media pages. Consider tools such as Hootsuite or SproutSocial to automatically post to multiple sites for you.
